This is an interesting time of year and we have had a few interesting weeks this January. Snow. Freezing rain. Sleet. Surface melting. Hard ice underneath. The weather is one of those things everyone has an opinion about but no one can do anything about. I think it's going to snow. I don't think it is going to snow. I'm from Indiana; I can drive in almost anything. I'm from Virginia; I think I can drive in almost anything.
Weather has a way of revealing one's true character. Some defiantly curse the snow and dare it to bring any alterations to their plans while others see it as a warm blanket upon the face of the earth that calls forth sitting in a chair, wrapped in a favorite shawl, and sipping hot chocolate while reading a favorite book.
The fact of the matter is, weather/snow is something that comes to us and we cannot change that. All we can do is determine our response to it.
And that is the jumping off point for today’s sermon.
