. . . from Peakland United methodist Church in Lynchburg, Va. Our Advent Committee starting working on this season back in June. They picked a theme of “Wait and See” and have done their work around that theme. In worship, the liturgies we engage – the responsive readings, prayers, affirmations and candle lightings - these are the work of the people in worship. And today we begin our work by waiting.
Most of us think of waiting as something passive. It's what you do flipping through the magazines at the doctor's office, or conversing with the barber while you wait your turn. It's an almost hopeless state determined by events you cannot control. It isn't your turn, so you wait. The doctor's appointment book is full, so you wait. The bus hasn't come. You wait.
Sometimes, that’s all you can do. It's like life sitting at a rail road crossing - all you can do is sit there and watch things pass by.
But not every wait is the same, is it?
