Grace and peace to you, and welcome to Trusting God at all times, a daily devotion. I’m Rev. Joe Cailles, the pastor of Peakland United Methodist Church here in Lynchburg Virginia.


We in the church are now in the blessed season of Advent. Peakland’s new blue banners are up in the sanctuary. We have wreaths with blue ribbons hanging outside on the church doors. Blue is a new Advent color for Peakland. We’ve not ever done that before. Doing new things is often a challenge for churches and for people. Why don’t we keep doing things the way we’ve always done them? We’ve never done it that way before. We’ve always done it this way. I hear that a lot from church folks and I hear myself saying that too.
