Grace and peace to you, I’m Rev. Joe Cailles, the pastor of Peakland United Methodist Church in Lynchburg Virginia. Today is Wednesday, May 1, 2024. We are still in the Easter Season in which we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus and consider how his resurrection gives our souls and our church new life. We at Peakland have some great life-giving ministries happening this month, that I’m already excited about. On Monday, May 13, Peakland will host a seminar called What You Need to Know. We’ll gather in our fellowship hall from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Representatives from the Virginia Conference Foundation and from Tharp Funeral Home will be on hand to talk to us about planned giving, and end-of-life giving and pre-planning for funerals. Through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, we have been promised eternal life and new life today. Our What You Need to Know seminar will help us plan for effective giving in this life and help our loved ones celebrate our eternal lives. No reservations are needed for the seminar, but Tharp is providing refreshments, so you can let the church office know you’re coming so we’ll have enough seats and snacks. Reach out to Kim at PeaklandOffice@gmail.com On Sunday, May 19, Peakland will unite for a single Pentecost Day worship service at 10:00 a.m. in the fellowship hall. Our youth are already planning and preparing for this service, and it will be a happy celebration of the Holy Spirit of Christ empowering us and guiding us in our ministries as we reach out, serve all, and extend God’s table. Beyond Peakland, our United Methodist General Conference is meeting now in Charlotte North Carolina. This is the world-wide denominational gathering that decides the important issues for the United Methodist Church. The General Conference began last week on April 23, and they conclude their work this Friday, May 3. Andrew LaBar Dietz, Peakland’s Deacon, is there now as an observer and he’s sending us emails this week about the decisions the General Conference is making and how they might impact Peakland. If you’d like to receive these emails, contact Kim in the church office at PeaklandOffice@gmail.com Also in May, Peakland will be collecting supplies for health kits and menstrual kits for the Virginia Annual conference next month. Peakland’s goal this year is 125 of each kit. I’ll have more details beginning next week. about the kits and how you can contribute As always, come worship here at Peakland either in person on Sundays at 8:30, 9:45 and 11:00 or join us online for the 11:00 a.m. Sunday worship. All are welcome.
