Wisdom Wednesday: Welcome Jane Whitehead

Joe: Grace and peace to you. I’m Rev. Joe Cailles, pastor of Peakland United Methodist Church here in Lynchburg, Virginia. Today is Wednesday, January 17, 2024. With me today is Pastor Jane Whitehead, who has been hired as Peakland’s latest Director of Senior Adult Ministries. Jane, Jane welcome to Peakland. Tell us about your self. Well, Joe, I’ve been a Licensed Local Pastor since July 2017. I was called to Pastoral ministry when I was 57. That was 10 years ago, and I love it. I was very active in my home church growing up, but it is apparent to me that everything God called me to do through those years was preparing me for what I’m doing now. Joe: Jane, what are your hopes for your ministry at Peakland? There are 3 things I LOVE about ministry. Praying, preaching, and visiting. I am excited about spending time getting to know Peakland’s shut-ins and prime-timers. I know some of these parishioners and look forward to renewing relationships with them and pursuing new relationships. I am excited about going to Westminster-Canterbury once a month and lunching with those folks and I look forward to sharing communion with those I visit. I believe that communion is one of the most important things we do. It nourishes us spiritually and we are able to celebrate God’s presence with us, I feel privileged to be able share it with you. It is my hope to have a close relationship with those I minister to. I will be sending notes and cards to everyone and although I will be visiting and calling, I want everyone to feel free to call me when there is anything I can do for you. Joe: Now in addition to working at Peakland, you have another ministry as well, right? I do. I am pastor of Patmos United Methodist Church in Huddleston. I have a congregation of about 26. I began this ministry on January 1st and am getting to know them and establish my ministry there as well. So, I am doubly blessed! Joe: So even though we won’t see you on Sundays because you’ll be leading worship at Patmos, we at Peakland are eager to get to know you and be in ministry with you.
